Aomori Apple: Refined by Sunlight and Snowmelt
Aomori Prefecture in Japan is one of the most ideal apple-growing regions in the world. The unique climate conditions — abundant summer sunlight and long, cold winters — allow each apple to slowly accumulate sugars and flavor.
The Legend of Fuji Apple
Aomori Fuji apples are famous for their crisp and juicy texture. Bite into one and you’ll hear a crisp sound. The flesh has tightly packed cells storing plenty of juice and sugars, with sweetness around 14-15 degrees, paired with just the right amount of acidity for a perfect balance.
Origin and Cultivation
Apple orchards in Aomori mostly use “bag cultivation” techniques. Paper bags protect the fruit during early growth, shielding them from pesticides and pests. Weeks before harvest, the bags are removed so sunlight can naturally color the apples. This method gives the apples their evenly deep red appearance.
Storage and Enjoyment
Store at room temperature for about two weeks, or refrigerate for one to two months. Best served chilled and sliced directly to enjoy the crisp texture and abundant juice.
